After barely recovering from my run. I decided that i had better blog it down before I forget the details.
Yes! I cleared 2010's IPPT. Never afraid of any of the static station and 2.4km run is my only constant fear. My lungs just can't keep up. During my active days, army kept me fit by the constant runs that we were forced to do.
I am a guards gold holder. And I run 2.4km (we call it a sprint) within 8mins45secs.
- back to reality (reads: now) -I seriously needed to clear my window. I did not want any RT and most importantly ICT is coming and I don't want to be caught having to stay back to train!
So I completed the static stations and went to do my run. Already going to shit in my pants due to the excitement and anxiety.
I had a strategy.
I would run the first 3 rounds (need to so 6) without looking ay my watch. This is so I would not get stressed up. So I started my rub, normal pace.
Round 1: Cross the line, heard the beep and look up. The official time clocks 1min38secs.
(Yes i did not want to look at my watch, but i can't help but look up when i cross the line at the display!)
Round 2: Running on a steady pace, cross the line 3mins 50seconds. At the back of my mind i was thinking "Am i going to fast? Will i exhaust myself?" - I usually do one round in 2 mins, and as the rounds go by, i do 2mins 10secs, 2mins 30secs.. but i am now doing 2 rounds under 4mins! So i am running too fast i thought!
Round 3: Already starting to pant. Cross the line, look at my watch for an acumulative time and breakdown. WAH KAOS! I never press start!
Panic already. I did not look up at the time board when i did round 3. I started to pant like a dog, i had saliva flooding my mouth, my lungs felt like they are exploding. My body is begging me to stop. But my mind determined to do it only once.
So in a classic example of mind over body, i did the "swing your hands fast and your legs will follow" method.
I must have looked like a fool swinging my hands up and down so quickly. But it did create the momemtum and i crossed the line for lap 4.
Round 4: Lungs exploding, legs beginnging to wobble, pace starts to slow down
Still i kept telling myself i do not want to do this again and that it's the 3rd last round.
I reduced myself to a jog for 200m. Start to pick up speed, although it was a weak attempt one lap 5.
Round 5: Ok, i thought to myself. Do or die. Decide now. And of course the devil and the angel popped out almost immediatly. I only remember spitting and biting my teeth to push myself on.
One goal in my mind. I'll sprint on Lap 6. Lap 5 completed at 10mins 23secs. I have 2mins17secs to pass.
I can pass! I screamed i my head. I can, i can!
Round 6: Ok! Sprint! But my legs refused to listen to me. At the last 300m mark, Sprint! Nope again, i was just running, no sign of sprinting. I felt helpless. There was no way i can speed up. My body refuses to listen to me.
Then i head the PTI screaming at the end point.
"Tag 48!" - Yes. That's my tag number, 048. What a number (I thought i will fail once i get this number).
"Open you steps! Final stretch! You can pass!"
As though, he's my girlfriend, i felt a rush blast through my body and looking at the 200m mark ahead, i told myself to blow my body up after i cross the line.
I did! And gave it all i had for the last 200m.
Round 6: Completed in 11mins 59seconds. Silver Timing. (Amazing, when i though i would not even pass)
I knew i passed, but before i even look at the timeboard, i fell over to a side and pant like a dog again, sweat, saliva, everything was dripping off my face.
I must have looked stupid for just a 2.4km run. People must be laughing at me from the grandstand - what's this joker doing or something.
I'm so unfit! Haha. But so glad i passed anyway.
I love the PTI, if not for him, i'm quite sure it'll be hard for me to pass.
Now i have a pair of legs that wobble still.
I think i need a week to recover.
I just hate IPPT.
